Happy 10th Anniversary “Sinfonía por el Perú”

Ten years ago, the Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez founded the social music program "Sinfonía por el Perú". Based on the basic idea of the Venezuelan program "El Sistema", music schools, so-called "Núcleos" were established in the hotspot neighbourhoods of Lima, and soon in the most vulnerable regions of the whole country. Today, "Sinfonía por el Perú" comprises 29 núcleos and 16 "modulos", smaller offshoots of the núcleos in particularly remote areas. 30,000 children and young people have gone through the program since its inception and have experienced how music can change lives through dedicated learning, high commitment and a sense of responsibility for themselves and others. Many of these children and young people have thus developed their personalities and discovered skills that help them lead self-determined lives today - in and outside of music.

The program is financed through the cooperation of 35 national and international partners who focus on specific areas. The Hilti Foundation is the main partner of the National Youth Orchestra and Choir, in which the best young musicians of the program play and sing together. They are the ambassadors of "Sinfonía por el Perú" and living examples of how much music can contribute to the empowerment of young people and thus positively influence their lives.
