AIM - Academy for Impact through Music

An international study carried out in 2018 with over 300 programs in the field of Music for Social Action has shown that, aside from financial security, the greatest needs in the sector are the education and training of teachers and the cooperation and networking between different programs.

With the establishment of AIM, the Hilti Foundation aims to provide a solution to these needs while ensuring that young teachers are equipped with everything they need to teach in a targeted manner towards sustainable social change through music.

Objectives

  • Global teaching and leadership innovation

  • Offer the foundations for impact-oriented teaching

Project description

AIM is a global innovation program initiated by the Hilti Foundation.  It seeks to enrich the global field of music for social action by combining expert knowledge to increase quality, opportunity and social impact that empowers children and young people.

At the heart of AIM sits the Firebird Fellowship: a new collaboratively designed and in-depth training program for the next generation of inspiring teaching artists in social programs. The Fellowship will evolve into an innovation lab environment, from which new models of strong practice – in addition to existing practices –  will aim to support the entire sector. This training will complement rather than replace the vital teacher training initiatives that already exist.

Further strategic activities will include training in response to widespread organizational needs and advocacy for strong fieldwork with a focus on teaching and evidence of impact.

Impact

2020 has been a pilot year for AIM. So far, the program has successfully trained 50 young musicians from around the world and aims to train the same number of musicians for years to come. These newly trained musicians will set new standards in teaching and share their knowledge with future generations. Over the years, it is hoped that a strong cohort of well-trained and holistically educated teachers will emerge, each of whom will have a sensitive understanding of the significance of social orientation within the music programs. Their method of teaching will consciously contribute to the long-term goal of social change.
